DJECO matching game
It's always nice to receive an unexpected parcel in the mail, especially when they are the finished products of projects I have been working on. Djeco, a company based in Paris are leaders when it comes to stylish children's games, their packaging is really lovely too. This cute little game is for kids between 5-10, it involves matching either the hats, cheeks or the jumpers of cats, it's actually more challenging than it looks! (the eyes are just a red herring!)

Groovy, retro scales
I am very busy right now working on some hush hush projects, I can't wait to tell you about them!
Till then, you probably know by now, one of my fave past times is scouring my local second hand shops for mid century treasures. These scales leaped out at me today, this is why I love this era so much, not content with producing this practical (and often reviled) product, someone thought to them selves, why not "groovy" it up with a big green and blue butterfly! I have never really wanted to own scales but these are too good. (my husband chooses to disagree!)
Oh yes and this is my cushion all made up, its got a spring vibe, something we here in New Zealand are very much looking forward to!

Before and after!
I thought you might like to see a before and after! The design on black is my original paper cut, it's amazing what a difference a more vibrant colour and a few details can make!

wall decals in progress

I've painted the paper, enlarged the elements to my maximum scanner size A3 and have made a start on the big tree, I've also finished the first tower. It always takes a while to get going, but once I've established a few things like the style and colours, it usually speeds up. One things for sure, I make a lot of mess, all of which has to be sorted at the end of the day!

Wall decals for an after school care room in New Jersey.
It doesn't happen very often that I can talk about a project I am working on, I asked the lovely client's who I am designing for at this very moment if it would be ok for me to show my work in proress,
I thought you might like to see, they said that's fine,
so following are the beginning stages of a private school after care room renovation in New Jersey.
My client is wanting to apply wall decals to create a fun and unique space.
They found my work on Etsy (go Etsy!) I'm looking forward to seeing my designs huge!
what fun, so here we go...
I really like their colour palette! very much the sort of colours I like to use, a mixture of bright and off beat!
These are their rough concepts of the space, only 1 wall will be blue (the main wall for the decals)
This is my first version of the main wall, featuring a washing line to hang kids art work.
roughs for the 2 small children's areas, decals to surround a play market and play kitchen ,
they are very happy with this concept.
This is the revised version for the main wall. They sent me an example of one of my designs as a guide. Beacuse there is a mix of ages using this space, my client felt this wall needed to be a bit "older" and not to young, this will need to be much more stylised and graphic, The plain rectangle at the bottom is a couch so this gives you an idea of the scale, it's quite big! I have had to get my head around feet and inches! They are happy with this so now it's time to get started!
I'll post as I go!
COMPETITION WINNER
I also want to let you know that I placed all those that entered my recent competition on my Blog and Facebook page in a bag and randomly pulled out a winner, it's Paula Hudson, congrats! yes indeedy, it is a retro clock!

COMPETITION
you may recognize bits in this "fresh as summer rain print" it's a combo of various collages, I really wanted to achieve a fresh pretty feel, I've entered it in the Spoonflower fashion competition, I think it would look best as wallpaper, what do you think?!
**********competition!**********
This design was largely made up of magazine cut outs, simply let me know what iconic mid century item appears in this fabric (a hint: it has a yellow circle in the middle of it!)
I will send a randomly drawn winner a cushion made of this fabric!
I WILL DRAW THE WINNER AT THE END OF NEXT WEEK!

new work
As all my fellow mothers in New Zealand know, it's the school holidays and this means dragging teenagers out of bed before lunchtime, feeding them when all they can find in the pantry are chippies (crisps) and doing piles of extra washing (heaven forbid their favorite pants are dirty!) in case you think I am a push over, I have been saying a lot of: you know where the oven is and you know where the washing machine is, have a go! Anyway, with sheer determination I have finished a collection of new art works with a distinctly abstract feel, more than usual for me, they where such fun to do, next week, schools back and it's back to working on licensing work. in a very quiet house!

Earthquake rocks Wellington
Yesterday evening at a bit after 5 New Zealand time an extremely frightening 6.5 earthquake hit us.
I am still feeling light headed, it's as if all that adrenaline is still flowing through my body, amazingly only a few of my knick knacks fell down, unlike some business such as supermarkets who have had to spend the day cleaning up. New Zealand is a wonderful place to live but sitting on a huge fault line is something we never learn to live with.
