tea towel design

it's always a little bit of a challenge when I am asked to create work with a limited amount of colours.

because this is going to be printed on a teatowel I have created it in my usual way (cut paper) and then I've simply flattened it in photoshop,

I quite like the way it looks even crisper, I'll let you know when they are available for sale!

the textured version will be for sale as a print on etsy.

i

last week i had a brainwave to make cubes that make up words, i'm not sure these are quite right, when i have a moment i will re think them.

i just have to show you these native birds enjoying our bird feeder, we counted 25 at once today, 

i think word has gone around that we are the place to be during these cold days. there's nothing like a big blob of fat to keep them energized! 

i was hunting through my mountain of images and stumbled on these.

before i ventured back into paper cut art i made an income hand making all sorts of different items, from sassy dollies to french lady beaded jewellery and groovy necklaces.

it is snowing!!!!!

we never, i mean never have snow here in wellington,

it has been magic, what an amazing sight, it has even snowed in auckland which is sub tropical!

i'll be adding these craft kits, 2 love birds, 3 houses in my etsy shop over the next few days, i hope you like them!

the camellias are in full bloom, they line our streets bringing a gorgeous flash of colour during our winter months.

yes, i admit i've played with a couple, i've always wondered what a blue one would look like!

what a challenge! no birds, or flowers just shapes and colours!

every wednesday i meet up with my german friends gudrun and silva to go walking in days bay. we have been so lucky, it's been an incredibly kind winter, we have been blessed with so many sunny still days.

during the next few days i will be adding a couple of exciting new editions to my etsy shop.

they are paper craft kits for you to cut and assemble.

there are a set of 3 cute little houses, these aren't just for kids either, i have them above my fire place, it's hard to tell that they are made of card , they look so solid.

the other set is a couple of adorable love birds, again, they are easy to cut and make, i will post pictures soon!

eye candy

just a little bit of eye candy to start the week, i found the groovy thermos during my weekly junk shop hunt, it still works! the sweet bowl makes me chuckle, fancy deciding to add random polka dots, that's why i love the 50's!

it's hard to believe that it's not even spring yet! these shots are taken on the farm that we stayed at, i picked a mountain of spring blooms, the smell in the car on the way home was heavenly!

 

I'm taking a short trip over to the coast for a couple of days, till soon!

the sun is out again at last! it's been freezing. it's really nice, our new garden has several camellia trees and up till now we haven't seen their flowers. i happen to love candy striped flowers and wouldn't you believe it this beauty revealed it's self overnight!

as you can see i have been very busy! IT'S SUCH FUN!!!!

i have finished the piece i posted a few days ago and have decided to change the bunny from blue to a more natural colour, it bugged me, the colours are more harmonious now i think,i might have to change the colour of her cuffs now they blend in with the bunny, i'll let you know later. i'm pleased with the colours on my crazy peacock, it's not easy for me but i am TRYING to edit my colours, with so many gorgeous shades to chose from it isn't easy!

it's very wintery here at the moment!

this isn't quite finished but i am really enjoying creating a 60's-70's feel,

it's the school holidays and i'm loving spending time with my 2 boys, today we walked to days bay, a lovely bay just around the coast. we walked in the bush and had lunch at the local cafe.

by the time we got home i was inspired to create this collage of a mother and her 2 kids by the sea side. 

again, i will be adding it to my collection of art to sell as prints at the end of this month.

i have been having so much fun playing around with paint textures. i spend about an hour each time after i have a painting session cleaning up my kitchen because i grab kitchen tools to scrape and smear. paint ends up on the walls, on the floor, everywhere!

as you know, i have been out of action for a while now working on a couple of childrens books. i am thrilled to say that i have completed them. they have been alot of fun to illustrate and i can't wait to show you them!

the great news is that i am now freed up (for a short while at least!) to completely redo and create all new work for my etsy shop!

i will be selling prints at affordable prices, this latest piece is the first one, when i have finished the collection i will feature it.

i am hoping it will be a success,

Every Tueasday morning I go walking with my good friend and fabulous artist Annie Hayward,

she had noticed a box of discarded 1950's lamp shades on the side of the road,

 I of course grabbed them, took them apart, cleaned them and voila, here they are! they look so much like vases I may use them as such or simply add them to my collection as mini sculptures, the organic shapes in my opinion are simply gorgeous.
